Major lane shift from Sunday 23rd Avenue

Major lane shift from Sunday 23rd Avenue

The City of Edmonton said there will be a “major” lane shift at 23 Avenue and 111 Street starting Sunday.

The shift is necessary to allow for work on the Capital Line South LRT, which will eventually run under the intersection.

Eastbound and westbound traffic on 23 Avenue will be moved slightly north, while traffic on 111 Street will be moved east.

According to the municipality, two lanes and one turning lane will remain available in both directions.

The speed limit on 111 Street between Century Park Station and Saddleback Road will be reduced to 25 mph, as will the speed limit on 23 Avenue approaching 111 Street.

Passage and accessibility for pedestrians will also be affected.

The city said two bus stops will be closed and two bus interchanges will be constructed.

The west sidewalk on 111 will be closed between 23 Avenue and Saddleback Road, the city said, while paved paths and ramps will be constructed around 23 Avenue and 111 Street.

The change will be in effect for approximately two years.
