Lung cancer screenings are offered for veterans in Altoona

On Friday, veterans can stop by the VA medical center in Altoona for more information about lung cancer screenings.

The awareness event is Friday morning from 9 a.m. to noon to set up screenings for lung cancer, the leading cause of cancer-related deaths among veterans.

Experts say screenings can be lifesaving because lung cancer is most treatable when caught early.

If you can’t come in, health officials said you can send a message through the My HealtheVet app or call your VA care team for more screening options.
