Community Thanksgiving meals offered across the state

With Thanksgiving quickly approaching, communities across Minnesota are coming together to host a celebration or event for those in need or who have no place to celebrate the holiday.

While many events are free, a few require registration or reservations in advance. 5 EYEWITNESS NEWS has created a list of events below, some of which require participants to call by a certain date.

Twin Cities area

  • Hopkins: The city’s police department is accepting nominations from Hopkins residents to receive a limited number of Thanksgiving meals. All nominations must be received by 6am on Monday, November 18th. No special meal requests or substitutions can be made. CLICK HERE complete a nomination form. The meals must be picked up at Driskill’s Downtown Market or delivered by police by Nov. 27.
  • Minneapolis: The ICCM Life Center will host a Thanksgiving Outreach Event at 1812 Park Ave. on Saturday, November 23 from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM. S.. The first 200 people in the first-come, first-serve event will receive a free turkey . There will also be a children’s party, a coat giveaway and a hot Thanksgiving meal.
  • Minneapolis: Friendship Community Services is accepting families who need help getting a Thanksgiving meal, while supplies last. You can register until Friday, November 15. You can call 612-327-8753 to register, or use the QR code found at THIS LINK.

Southern Minnesota

  • New Prague: Holy Trinity Lutheran Church will hold its 14th annual community dinner on Thanksgiving Day from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. There will be dining in the Fellowship Hall, as well as a take-out option.

Northern Minnesota

  • Buhl: Billy’s Bar is hosting a dinner on Thanksgiving Day at 1 p.m. The food is available for dinner, takeaway or delivery. Call 218-258-3689.
  • Cloquet: Zion Lutheran Church will host a dinner for Thanksgiving dinners from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. You can call for delivery at 218-451-0966.
  • Cook: St. Mary’s Catholic Church will host a dinner and takeout event on Thanksgiving from noon to 2 p.m. Home residents can call 952-412-0576 to have food delivered to them.
  • Duluth: From 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., the DECC will have dinner available in the Lake Superior Ballroom on Thanksgiving. If you would like to have food delivered to your home, you must register by 5pm on November 22nd. Call 218-723-6484 for additional delivery details.
  • Ely: Dinner is served on Thanksgiving from 11am to 4pm at the Ely Folk School. Although the event is a communal potluck, organizers say bringing a dish is optional.
  • Grand Rapids: Community members are invited to the Social Hall of St. Joseph Catholic Community Church on Thanksgiving from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. The event is dinner; However, delivery is possible and must be ordered before November 26. To do this, call 218-999-9233.
  • Hibbing: A dinner will be held at the Salvation Army on Wednesday, November 27 from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM. The event also includes entertainment. Meanwhile, another will take place at Mike’s Pub from 1pm to 6pm
  • Pengilly: MJ’s Lodge will host a community dinner from 1pm to 4pm. Donations for the area food shelf are also accepted.
  • Virginia: Three events are being held in the city – The Salvation Army is holding a dinner event on Wednesday, November 20 from 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM. Meanwhile, Friendsgiving will have takeout only at the Kline/Cuppoletti building starting at 11 a.m. am – 2 p.m. You can pre-order by calling 218-404-5183, or just stop by. A third event will be held at the Holy Spirit Social Hall from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM, with food served at 5:00 PM
