Two found dead in pickup truck recovered from river

ELKHART – The bodies of two men reported missing since Sunday morning were recovered Wednesday afternoon from a pickup truck submerged in the St. Joseph River.

Theo Bean, 30, of Elkhart, and Tireno Washington, 38, of Bristol were found near SR 120 west of CR 19 at 3:46 p.m., according to the Elkhart County Sheriff’s Office.

Bean and Washington were the subject of a missing persons search announced by the Elkhart County Sheriff’s Office earlier Wednesday.

A preliminary investigation shows their 2018 Ram 1500 was traveling east when it went off the north side of the roadway, through a ditch and into the river, the report said.

Autopsies were scheduled for Friday morning, Elkhart County Coroner Merv Miller said. Investigators were still trying to determine when the truck may have entered the water, he said.
