Philadelphia police announce arrest after deadly five-shot shooting at summer pop-up party

PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) — Philadelphia police have announced the arrest of a suspect in connection with the shooting of five teenagers over the summer.

The shooting happened June 14 on Greenland Drive in Fairmount Park during a pop-up party with about 200 attendees.

Four other teenage victims were struck by the gunfire and suffered non-fatal injuries, police said.

At a news conference Thursday, top city leaders announced the arrest of 17-year-old Zayaan Carroll, who was reportedly one of the gunmen involved. The police are still looking for a second suspect.

Investigators credit good police work and the community’s help in making an arrest in this case.

Authorities say a recent traffic stop led to the recovery of a gun seizure on a cell phone. Officers were able to find information on the phone that would lead to Carroll’s arrest on Wednesday.

“The phone led us to the defendant in this case. And when we obtained the defendant’s phone, it was linked to statements about this crime,” said Assistant District Attorney Anthony Voci.

Voci noted that the gun was used in the shooting at a pop-up party.

The top police force vowed to continue its hunt for those involved in violent crimes.

“We will work tirelessly to continue to pursue the individuals who are causing harm in our community,” said Philadelphia Police Chief Kevin Bethel.

Less than a month later, on July 4, nine people were shot during another large party in southwest Philadelphia. Maurice QuanThe 19-year-old was killed and eight others suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

Police said Quann and Stanley knew each other and that he helped promote the Fairmount Park party.
