Former Detroit Lions linebacker charged in connection with rioting on January 6, according to NBC News

According to NBC Newsformer Detroit Lions Linebacker Leander Antwione Williams was charged in the Jan. 6 riot.

Williams was arrested in Georgia on Thursday (November 14) for assaulting police officers during the attack on the US Capitol.

The 31-year-old was selected by the Lions in the fifth round (169th overall) in the 2016 draft.

Williams, who played in 14 games during his rookie campaign with the Lions, collected 12 tackles.

After one season in Detroit, he was waived in 2017 and later signed with the NFC North Division foe of the Minnesota Vikings practice squad, but was waived again in 2018.

He signed to the Seattle Seahawks practice squad in 2018 but was released within just two days.

Williams was later signed by the Carolina Panthers in 2018 but was waived during final roster cuts in 2019.

The 31-year-old was arrested in Savannah, Georgia, and charged with felonies of assaulting, resisting or obstructing certain officers and obstructing law enforcement.

Williams was also charged with three felonies related to entering and remaining in restricted Capitol buildings and grounds, disorderly conduct and acts of physical violence.

He is accused of joining others in the pro-Donald Trump mob when it attacked police to enter the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021, after months of lies about an election that Trump lost.
