What you need to know

  • Meta has announced that WhatsApp users can expect “Message Drafts” on mobile devices today (November 14).

  • This update saves unfinished/unsent texts in a conversation and shows a ‘Draft’ indicator at the top of your Chats view.

  • WhatsApp recently rolled out custom lists and teased the upcoming departure of phone numbers on the platform.

Meta is introducing an update to WhatsApp, and this feature could be one you were hoping for.

According to a press release, the company is launching “Message Drafts” for the WhatsApp platform. Meta’s CEO Mark Zuckerberg led the announcement today (November 14), stating that users will soon notice a “draft” indicator on threads for incomplete/unsent messages.

WhatsApp states that these indicators will appear green because chats will show “Draft” followed by a preview of your message in your list.

The platform adds that chats with unsent texts will be moved to the top of your view so you can quickly return and complete them. The feature is similar to other texting platforms such as Google Messages. Additionally, users can probably expect their “composed” message to be automatically placed in the write field after tapping on a thread.

Furthermore, the folks at MySmartPrice state that the update has been noticed via the respective app stores on iOS and Android devices. WhatsApp is updating devices with the new “Draft” indicator and functionality, along with several bug/performance fixes.

WhatsApp’s “draft messages” arrive a few weeks after the platform introduced its new ones custom Lists feature. This update expanded the app’s original list of available chat filters to include more categories. Meta has rolled out tags for chats like local neighborhood, work, and friends. Additionally, the update lets users get creative and create unique tags. All of this can be accessed from the “Chats” screen.

The app accepts one-on-one conversations, as well as group chats with this updated Lists feature.

Of course, that update can go well with that of the app upcoming username patch. In October, the platform rolled out a patch that allows users to manage privately stored contacts on other devices in addition to their “primary phone.” However, this appears to be a prelude to the platform’s plans to replace the need for a phone number in the app with a username.

That update was teased to come with a sync feature, allowing users to keep their contacts with them on any device.
