Police: man charged with animal abuse, drug trafficking and firearms offences

WESTFIELD – After authorities from several law enforcement agencies arrested a man wanted on several outstanding warrants at an East Barlett Street apartment, they discovered three dogs suffering from neglect, three handguns and a stash of cocaine, according to court records.

Pedro J. Deleon Jr., 31, of Springfield, was discovered hiding under a bed after authorities executed a search warrant at the East Bartlett Street apartment, according to court documents.

When officers from four federal, state and local law enforcement agencies arrived at the apartment on Oct. 22 to execute the warrant against Deleon, they were met at the door by a woman who said he was not there and, in her opinion, generally uncooperative . to a report filed with the court by a state police officer involved in the arrest.
