The Hawks in the Northern Cape have asked for the public’s help in finding one of four suspects involved in a 2022 armed robbery at a farm where gold and silver bars worth a reported R40 million rand were stolen.

Warrant officer Nomthandazo Mnisi said on Friday they are trying to find Mayeso Ginora Lufeya, who they say can help “resolve an ongoing case”.

He said a couple was attacked on their farm, Witsloot, in Vosburg in November 2022 by four balaclava-clad assailants.

Mnisi said the suspects were armed with firearms, including shotguns, and robbed some gold bars and silver bars worth R40 million, as well as a 22 rifle.

He said the police were informed and a case of armed robbery was opened, which was later transferred to the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation.

Warrant Officer Minisi said police have urged anyone with information on Lufeya’s whereabouts to contact investigating officer Warrant Officer Rooiland on 082 2770 5219, the crime stop number 008600 10111, the nearest police station, or share information on MySAPSApp.

Meanwhile, private investigator Mike Bolhuis published additional information about the incident, noting that the attackers were dressed in “new royal blue long-sleeved overalls and black hoodies.”

“They wore skeletal rubber masks and welding goggles. Their shoes consisted of black leather boots, black sneakers with white laces and white sneakers.

“The group consisted of two white men and two black men,” said Bolhuis.

According to his post, the robbers held the couple captive for hours with an electric stun gun.

‘They specifically targeted the couple’s gold and silver collection, which they appeared to know was stored in an underground bunker and a safe in the utility room.

“The robbers forced the couple to hand over the keys to both safes,” he said.
