‘Here to be that big brother’

Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins has made an immediate impact on the team since taking over weeks ago. He already has two touchdown passes to his name and highlight-reel plays on the field, but it’s his role off the field that draws extra attention.

Hopkins spoke to the media shortly before practice on Wednesday and discussed his role as a mentor to the younger receivers on the roster.

“I tell those guys to go out there and be themselves. They screw up, make a mistake, go out, just be yourself,” Hopkins said. “Put it behind you. They’re doing well; I’m the first person to try to be there for them when they’re also doing (badly). But they definitely asked me a lot of questions. Just about football and life. That’s why I’m here to be that big brother.”

During last week’s press conference, rookie Xavier Worthy said he was listening to everything Hopkins provided regarding his journey in the league. The talented speedster has shown some big moments in games this season, while also having rookie moments. The combination of Worthy and Hopkins will remain crucial to the Chiefs’ success as the second half of the season takes shape.
