Calgary weather: Fog warnings were issued for Calgary and the surrounding area early Friday

Dense fog caused near-zero visibility for parts of central and southern Alberta early Friday, prompting Environment and Climate Change Canada to issue fog advisories — including for the city of Calgary.

In their advisory, ECCC explained: “Travel is expected to be hazardous due to reduced visibility in some locations.”

As of 7 a.m., foggy conditions could be observed on 511 Alberta cameras, including in Calgary, near Okotoks, near Airdrie and west of Drumheller.

Winds will increase through the morning and help mix the fog, and Calgary will be under clear skies by early evening Friday.

Chinook conditions will develop on Sunday, bringing snow and rain on the BC side of the Rockies and warm westerly winds developing on the Alberta side, especially in southern regions.

This will be short-lived as a frontal system is expected to arrive late Sunday, dropping temperatures to 1 C before Monday’s high.

Calgary is likely to see some precipitation on Monday, although accumulations appear minimal at this time.
