Teen burglary suspects identified themselves on home surveillance video

COVENTRY, CT (WFSB) – Three teenagers have been arrested for breaking into a Coventry home and spending “significant time” there while the homeowners were away, police said.

The minor suspects were only identified as being 15, 16 and 17 years old.

The burglary was reported on Nov. 1 at a home on Woodland Road.

According to police, the house had been vacant for some time. When the homeowners returned, they reported finding evidence that someone had forced their way inside and appeared to have spent a lot of time there.

After reviewing surveillance video from the home, officers said they were able to determine the identities of the suspects involved based on their appearance and the fact that they referred to each other by name in the video.

The suspects were referred to the Superior Court for Juvenile Matters in Willimantic.

All three were charged with first-degree burglary, first-degree criminal mischief, second-degree criminal trespass and sixth-degree theft.

The 17-year-old was also charged with possession of alcohol by a minor, police said.
