Name released for 27-year-old killed on E. Chapman Street in Augusta

AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) – A 27-year-old has been identified as the victim of a shooting on East Chapman Street in Augusta, the Richmond County coroner told us Friday.

Coroner Mark Bowen responded to the 700 block of East Chapman Street regarding a fatal shooting.

Zaytreonta Boyd of Augusta had been shot at least once and was pronounced dead at the scene at 8 p.m., Bowen said. An autopsy is planned.

The Richmond County Sheriff’s Office says officers responded to the 700 block of East Chapman Street about a shooting at 7:29 p.m.

At the scene, officers located an adult male victim who had been shot at least once.

The Richmond County Coroner’s Office says the victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

An autopsy has been scheduled, according to the coroner’s office.

Other details are limited at this time.

The shooting comes amid a two-year outbreak of violent crime claimed more than 180 lives in the CSRA.

Cities large and small have been affected on both sides of the Savannah River. But Augusta, the region’s largest community, has been particularly hard hit.
