man in custody after kidnapping, assault of man involved in son’s fatal crash

An Altoona man is behind bars after kidnapping and assaulting another person involved in his son’s fatal car crash, police said.

According to a criminal complaint, police were called to UPMC Altoona just before 9:30 PM on Monday after the victim told medical staff he had just been attacked.

Officials said the victim told police he was sitting in front of the Sheetz on Chestnut Avenue when a man, identified as Dustyn Price, 34, arrived in a Cadillac SUV and confronted the victim.

The complaint states that the victim told officers he was recently involved in a car accident that killed Price’s son.

Police said Price ordered the victim to get into his car or he would “blow his head off.”

According to the criminal complaint, the victim got into Price’s vehicle because he feared for his safety.

Police said the victim could not see a gun at this time and that Price instructed the victim to talk about his son’s accident.

The criminal complaint states that Price drove the victim to a home on the 300 block of Lexington Avenue, where they met with Price’s relative.

According to police, the victim began to explain what happened during the crash when Price struck the victim in the ear and left side of his head with his fist.

The criminal complaint states the victim threw his Sheetz bag at Price before fleeing the scene into UPMC Altoona.

Police said that upon arriving at the hospital, the victim saw Price circling around looking for him.

According to the complaint, police obtained security footage from Sheetz that showed Price approaching the victim with his hand inside his hoodie, where it remained for the duration of the interaction, with the footage confirming the interaction as the victim described.

Officials said police arrived at the Lexington Avenue home, where they contacted Price’s relative, who told them the three individuals had spoken on the back porch of the home and that nothing physical had happened before the victim left the scene left.

The criminal complaint states that police obtained security footage from UPMC Altoona that shows Price driving to the home, while the victim ran from the scene a few minutes later.

Police said the footage corroborated the victim’s account of Price circling the area when the victim entered the hospital.

Online court records show Price is facing one charge of kidnapping with intent to terrorize, one charge of making terroristic threats, two charges of simple assault and one charge of intimidation.

Court records also show Price is currently being held in the Blair County Jail, with a preliminary hearing scheduled for Nov. 20.
