The Jefferson County bus driver is charged with 14 sex crimes, the sheriff’s office says

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) – A Jefferson County Schools bus driver has been charged with sex crimes by the county sheriff’s office.

The announcement came Friday. Officials with the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office said a detective arrested 56-year-old James Robert Smith and charged him with 14 counts of sexual contact by an authority figure.

This after the Ministry of Child Protection contacted the school system to inform them of a complaint. The sheriff’s office also said investigators reviewed the bus’s camera footage before taking Smith into custody and filing charges against him.

Smith was taken into custody on a $100,000 bond, JCSO said. He has since been dismissed from the school system.
