RPD releases new information about the Lakemill Lodge shooting

RENO, Nev. (KOLO) – Reno police are releasing new information about an officer involved in the Lakemill Lodge shooting.

They say around 6:30 a.m. on Oct. 31, officers were called to the Lakemill Lodge for reports of a person pointing a gun at another person. The caller told dispatch that they were working security when they saw a person in a room. When they tried to get that person out, the caller said they closed the door and you could hear the gun cocking.

Police determined that the suspect was in one of the vacant rooms at the Lodge.

Officers then tried unsuccessfully to negotiate with the suspect for their surrender for approximately three hours. After this was unsuccessful, police obtained a warrant to arrest the suspect for assault with a deadly weapon.

As police prepared to enter the apartment, the suspect partially exited and pointed a gun at officers. At that moment shots were fired.

The suspect then retreated into the room and negotiations continued for approximately another hour before officers entered the room and arrested the suspect.

He was then taken to a local hospital and treated for his injuries. No officers were injured in the incident.

Further investigation revealed that the suspect was in possession of three pneumatic pistols at the time of the arrest.

The suspect, identified as Scott Searly, was released from the hospital and booked for assault with a deadly weapon.
