USM announces new online information technology program

The University of Southern Mississippi (USM) has launched a new online bachelor’s degree program in information technology to equip students with the essential skills and knowledge to excel in today’s rapidly evolving digital landscape.

The Information Technology (IT) program offers a comprehensive curriculum covering a wide range of IT topics, including cybersecurity, network management, software development and database management. Students will gain hands-on experience through real-world projects and simulations, preparing them for a successful career in a variety of IT roles.

“We are pleased to introduce our online information technology program,” said Dr. Tom Hutchinson, dean of the Office of Online Learning. “The program is designed to meet the growing demand for skilled IT professionals by providing flexible and accessible education to students from all walks of life.”

Some of the key features of the program include flexibility, allowing students to seamlessly balance their studies, work and personal commitments; experienced teachers who provide instruction and mentorship; a career-oriented curriculum aligned with industry standards and employer needs; as well as dedicated academic advisors and technical support.

“The online format of our bachelor’s degree in Information Technology provides students with a flexible path to balance personal and professional commitments,” said Dr. Sara Lee, director of the School of Computing Sciences and Computer Engineering. “With a curriculum that spans multiple IT specialties, students can tailor their education to their interests while preparing for a demanding tech career.”
