Cambria County CO accused of having sex with a female inmate, detectives say

CAMBRIA COUNTY, Pa. (WJAC) — Authorities say a corrections officer at the Cambria County Jail is facing charges, accused of sex acts with a female inmate.

Detectives say 37-year-old Matteson Speed ​​allegedly had sex with the inmate several times over the past month.

According to the affidavit, detectives were contacted in late October to investigate allegations that Officer Speed ​​had engaged in sexual acts with a female inmate while on break.

Investigators say one of three witnesses reported that the 31-year-old inmate “personally disclosed” the alleged sexual relationship with Officer Speed.

Police say the inmate later admitted to having sex with Speed, during one of his breaks, in a staff bathroom at the jail.

Authorities say that when questioned, Officer Speed ​​admitted to being alone with the inmate at least twice, but denied having sex with her.

According to the criminal complaint, Speed ​​claimed he caught the inmate in the staff restroom and “forced” her out without further incident.

This is evident from online court records that Officer Speed ​​faces one felony count of institutional sexual assault.

He was arraigned on Thursday evening and has been released on bail.
