Shimla: Political tensions in Punjab over the status of Chandigarh have been increasing over time SAD Sudhar Lehar requested Governor Gulab Chand Kataria to intervene in the central government’s decision to allot land to Haryana for a new vidhan sabha. Critics warn that the move could worsen historic disputes and further strain relations between Punjab and Haryana. The delegation led by Gurpartap Singh Wadala that met Kataria on Friday carried a memorandum condemning the Centre’s decision to allot land to Haryana as potentially detrimental to the interests of Punjab and the sentiments of its people. “The Center is allowing Haryana environmental permit Swapping 12 hectares for 10 in Chandigarh for a separate assembly is a controversial decision that could reignite long-standing regional tensions,” the document said, referring to the violent political unrest in Punjab in the 1980s.
