The race margin in North Carolina is narrowing as counties complete Election Day

Associated press

RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) — The already tight race for a seat on the North Carolina Supreme Court has narrowed further as most counties complete the final Nov. 5 elections. Democratic Associate Justice Allison Riggs was still backing Republican challenger Jefferson Griffin on Friday. The margin is within range for Riggs to request a recount. County election boards met Friday to consider provisional or absentee ballots, weigh any challenges and certify local results. A few provincial governments will likely complete their work this weekend or Monday. Complete, aggregated results in areas with very close legislative races still indicate that Republicans are unlikely to maintain their veto-proof majority in the General Assembly in January.
