A holidaying grandmother was left stunned after she was almost arrested for refusing to pay for a tuna sandwich she returned on an international flight earlier this month.

Lily Ifield described the sub as “soggy,” “cold” and inedible when she ordered the $11 snack on a Jet2 flight from London to Turkey on November 3. she said to the sun. She said when it came time to pay, she refused.

When the budget airline’s plane landed in Bodrum – a city in southwestern Turkey – four officers armed with guns and clubs stood at the plane to escort the 79-year-old grandmother off the plane.

The cabin crew was reportedly fed up with her refusing to pay for the sandwich, even though she claimed to have already paid about $63 for four mini bottles of wine that she drank with her daughter to ease their anxiety in the air.

“We had no idea what we had done. I turned to the people and said, ‘I think I got arrested for a sandwich,'” Ifield said.

According to Ifield, the steward reportedly told the British resident to “shut up” and be quiet, but she snapped back and said, “Excuse me, I can talk as much as I want.” We were treated like convicts because of a baptism.”

When the women were greeted by armed police abroad, they “trembled” and initially had no idea that the police response was about the fish sandwich.

Ifield’s daughter suggested she may have been arrested because someone had put drugs in their luggage, she told the Sun.

To add to the confusion, airport police reportedly made Ifield walk “for miles” through the airport. The journey was unsettling for the elderly woman, who claimed she needed a new knee and used a walking stick. When she tried to ask where they were going, officers reportedly said “don’t speak English, don’t speak English.”

Even her daughter was shocked at how the incident seemed to have escalated.

“My daughter said, ‘Look, my mom just sent back a sandwich – what is this all about?’” Ifield said.

When officers finally realized the drama was over an unpaid sandwich, they decided to drop the whole ordeal.

“It only ended when they suddenly realized how stupid the argument they had been called into was and said to us, ‘Go ahead.’ They were obviously so embarrassed,” Ifield said.

“Our cabin crew reported that two customers engaged in disruptive and unpleasant behavior during the flight, including the illegal consumption of alcohol that had been purchased duty-free and brought on board,” a Jet2 spokesperson wrote in a statement to The Post.

The spokesperson declined to comment on the sandwich situation.

Ifield said the experience ruined her vacation.

“We were so upset that we stayed in our room for four days. We felt sick with worry. It ruined our holiday. A flipping tuna sandwich everywhere. No one would have eaten that,” Ifield said.
