Dallas woman, 19, kills elderly man over phone during Facebook Marketplace meeting: police

Dallas police have arrested a 19-year-old woman for the murder of a man during a Facebook Marketplace meeting.

It happened last week just steps from an elementary school and a busy highway in Dallas, with multiple witnesses nearby.

Police say Ahmad Alkhalaf, a 66-year-old husband and father from Sasche, was killed in the mid-afternoon at an Oak Cliff gas station near I-35 and South Marsalis Avenue.

Shots rang out last Friday around 3 p.m., just as the nearby Felix G. Botello Elementary School was letting out.

Two Dallas ISD police officers rushed to the Valero and found Alkhalaf shot next to his pickup, according to court records. He later died in hospital.

Dallas detectives discovered that Alkhalaf was there to sell a black iPhone 15 to someone he had communicated with on Facebook Marketplace.

Amaya Medrano mugshot, Dallas County Jail

Police obtained several surveillance images from nearby businesses. They say the video showed 19-year-old Amaya Medrano and Alkhalaf having a brief conversation before Medrano ran away.

As Alkhalaf followed her, cameras captured Medrano turning and shooting Alkhalaf, police said.

According to an affidavit obtained by FOX 4 on Thursday, investigators matched Medrano’s various tattoos on her face and neck to her social media accounts.

Just three days after the fatal shooting, police noticed that the same Facebook account that communicated with Alkhalaf was selling a black iPhone 15 on the Marketplace.

On Wednesday, Dallas police announced that Medrano was taken into custody by U.S. Marshals and booked into the Dallas County Jail.

Alkhalaf’s family tells FOX 4 he was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, uncle and friend. They further said that he was a modest man who worked hard to support his family at home and abroad.

The family is speechless and shocked by this senseless act of violence. They say Alkhalaf’s life was taken over via a mobile phone.

Court records show Medrano was serving five years’ probation for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon after pleading guilty to stabbing someone last year.

Medrano is now charged with murder. Her bail has been set at $1 million.
