Firefighter and man injured in Northeast apartment fire, officials investigate

Officials say a man is in serious condition after being rescued from an apartment fire in Northeast on Friday evening. One firefighter was injured.

Firefighters arrived to the 2100 block of Maryland Avenue, where they encountered a fire on the first floor of an occupied building, officials said. A man was rescued by firefighters and taken to the hospital, and a D.C. firefighter was treated for a minor injury.

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF), in conjunction with DC Fire, is investigating the cause of the fire, the ATF said.
