Greeley-Evans School District 6 announces plans for ‘Profile of a Graduate’ – Greeley Tribune

Greeley-Evans School District 6 wants the community to consider the critical non-academic skills students will need to demonstrate by the time they graduate.

“Profile of a Graduate,” a new initiative under the school district’s five-year strategic plan, creates a tool for schools to communicate students’ expectations at graduation, said Anthony Asmus, assistant superintendent of secondary education and elementary education at Greeley. Evans School District 6. To do this, the community will provide insight into what “cognitive, personal and interpersonal skills” are a must for graduates.

Asmus presented the concept to the Education Council during the working session on Monday.

The profile focuses on traits and personalities and focuses on developing life skills essential for postsecondary success beyond academia, such as critical thinking, collaboration and resilience, Asmus said. In addition to essential skills, the profile will align with the Colorado Academic Standards and the visions, mission and values of school districts and schools.

From now through January, the district will work with community stakeholders to determine shared investments in students. This process begins with gathering input from community members to form “a compass” that guides teaching and learning in all schools, Asmus said.

“It has the ability to bring our community together around this,” Asmus said.

The district will ask people in the school community, “What hopes and dreams does your community have for graduates?”

Some early data results show that the community’s top priorities for students include achievement, well-being, personal growth and independence, support and advocacy, values and character, language and communication, and belonging and inclusivity, Asmus said Monday.

Asmus said the profile aims to include a shared language for all students and teachers to guide them toward “the same priority outcomes and establish a unified vision” for all by graduation. The initiative will also help shape curricula and instructional practices to build the identified skills.

Once the input is placed in a database, district leaders will work with the district accountability committee, council of student representatives, and others in the community to analyze and thematize the data, create prototypes, and finalize the profile to present to the District 6 community and stakeholders. .
