Here's everything you need to know about Hugh Grant's ultra-sweet and ultra-private relationship with his five children

Hugh Grant offered us all a rare glimpse into what he’s like as a father in a recent appearance on The Kelly Clarkson Show.

Hugh shares 13-year-old Tabitha and 11-year-old Felix with actor Tinglan Hong, and 12-year-old John, 8-year-old Lulu and 6-year-old Blue with wife Anna Eberstein.

Hugh previously revealed he missed the birth of his first child due to his difficult relationship with the British media. In a statement issued to the Guardian after Tabitha’s birth, he explained, “I’ve had too many experiences where hospital staff were paid to leak information to the press.”

Hugo later admitted in the same publication: “I love my daughter very much. Fantastic. Has she changed my life? I’m not sure. Not yet. Not hugely, no. But I’m definitely glad I had her, I really am. And I feel like a better person.”

Since then, Hugh has only occasionally offered insights into his life as a father.

Speak with Radio times in 2020, the star said of his parenting style: “Stylistically, I’m probably more like my mother than my father. As a child she was quite crazy to us, with a lot of funny voices. I do that with my kids, but I’m not sure if they like it. Half the time they roll their eyes.”

“Anyone with young children would probably agree that this is simultaneously the worst and the best time of your life,” he said elsewhere in the interview. “If you step on another broken toy every day with a hangover, it’s just horrible. But when you look back at the photos on your iPhone, you realize, ‘Oh, I was very happy. This is a lot of fun. ‘”

He also acknowledged how much he loved his children in an interview with Peoplesaying: “It’s just wonderful to have all that love around you. Suddenly you love someone more than yourself; in my case that’s unheard of, and they love you, and it’s all enchanting.”

He said: “I have a daughter who I named… I was in a bit of a panic with my wife the day we named her. We thought it might be fun for her when she got older if she could say in bars that her middle name was Danger. So her name is Lulu Danger Grant.”

Of his youngest daughter, Blue, Hugh said: “Again, I panicked about names with my wife, so we asked (Lulu’s) older brother when she was on her way.”

“We said, ‘We’ve got a new baby coming. What should we call her?’ and he said, ‘Kevin’ because that was his favorite Minion,” he revealed, referring to the movie *Despicable me*.

“And we thought about calling her Kevin, but then we said, ‘You better think of something else.’ So he said Blue because it was his favorite color,” concluded Hugh.

But Hugh’s inner softie was perhaps most visible Kelly Clarksons chat show, when she asked him about his “favorite part of fatherhood.”

“Are you the daddy of the jungle gym?” Kelly then asked, explaining that this is the moment when the kids “crawl all over you.”

“I kind of like that,” Hugh replied immediately, his eyes lighting up. “I kind of like that. I mean, there’s a lot to be afraid of because I’m old and it’s loud and unbearable. I hide in the toilet a lot and sleep there a lot now. There’s a lock, but they’ve all but destroyed it now.’

But Hugh then controlled the jokes and added seriously: “But it’s fun.”

“I mean, I’m going home tonight and, you know, let’s be honest, that bit where they jump into your arms…” he continued, noticeably softening. “The six-year-old, she calls it her chimpanzee stuffed animal. I really like that.”

And fans admitted they were touched to see Hugh briefly drop his grumpy old man persona to talk about his children, with one person commenting on a TikTok video of the clip: “This is the nicest and warmest I’ve ever seen him on TV.”

“Hugh emotional about his kids at the end is very rare to see, I love it,” someone else added. Another wrote: “I love how he defrosted after the ‘jungle gym dad’ question ”

Another agreed: “His smile when she explained his children were crawling all over him was so genuine.”
