The news was announced on Nov. 15 in a Facebook post shared by her husband, Alex, on her page. Rita Carrey died on Nov. 14 surrounded by family and friends, the post said.

The Canadian singer built her own career in entertainment and embraced her brother’s extraordinary fame with humor, once joking during a talk show appearance.What she said,” “They always say, ‘Jim Carrey’s sister.’ So my name is now JCS – Jesus Christ Superstar – because I never say, ‘Oh, you’re Rita.’ It’s JCS.”

She was co-host and producer of a radio program of ‘The Peet & Reet Show’ her Facebook profile.

Rita Carrey and her husband married last July after 16 years together, according to the post announcing her death.

“We just got married last July, in an outdoor wedding that she always wanted,” the post reads.

Family and friends will honor the memory of Rita Carrey with a candlelight vigil on December 7 in Ontario, Canada.

“It was a wonderful and crazy trip with Rita,” her husband concluded his statement. “She filled everyone’s hearts with joy with every step she took, and I will never forget this beautiful and incredibly talented woman. Goodbye, my love. Goodbye, my friend, until we meet again. You really had the time of your life. Your best friend and husband.”

In 2015, Rita Carrey shared during an appearance on “What she said.” During the interview, she opened up about hugging her famous brother and gave a glimpse into how his sense of physical comedy was shaped at a young age.

“That took Jim years of actually looking in the mirror and practicing facial expressions,” she said of her brother’s animated expressions. “One day my mother said to him, ‘If you keep doing that, you will see the devil.’ So of course he did it even more.”
