KSI makes statement on foe Jake Paul beating Mike Tyson in ‘disgusting’ boxing fight | Boxing | Sport

YouTuber and boxer KSI has branded Jake Paul’s win over Mike Tyson ‘disgusting’ and questioned why the fight was allowed to go ahead in the first place.

Boos rang out from the 70,000-strong crowd at AT&T Stadium as the eight-round fight ended with Paul winning on points.

The judges unanimously ruled in favor of ‘Problem Child’, with scorecards of 80-72, 79-73 and 79-73 showing a comfortable margin of victory for the Cleveland native.

Tyson, who had not competed professionally in the ring for 19 years, performed sluggishly as his opponent Paul – 31 years his junior – showed his youth and athleticism by landing jabs and accurate punches in the eight-round match.

The former heavyweight champion landed just 18 punches in the entire fight, compared to Paul’s 78. And KSI, who had suggested Tyson would be a ‘lamb sent to the slaughter’ before the fight took place, doubled down on his opinion after the ‘sad watch’.

“What a sad watch. It was all sad. Mike Tyson is twice the age of Jake Paul ffs,” KSI wrote in a post on his Instagram story. “It would NEVER be close. I can’t believe this elder abuse was even punished. Just a disgusting (fight).”

There were concerns for Tyson’s well-being after a flare-up of a stomach ulcer forced him to stop training the first time. But both fighters wanted to go ahead with the agreed fight, which is estimated to have earned Tyson £15.8 million ($20 million).

KSI had predicted that Paul would come out of the fight victorious via KO, despite their well-documented disdain for each other. At one point, when the fight was postponed from July to November for medical reasons, KSI even challenged Paul to face him in the ring.

His bold prediction didn’t come true as neither boxer went for the jugular, leaving fans in the stadium and those watching at home. Netflix bitterly disappointed.

After suffering a humiliating defeat, many expected Tyson to announce he would not be stepping back into the ring. However, ‘Iron Mike’ refused to rule out another fight in the future.

When Netflix host Ariel Helwani asked if he was ready, Iron Mike replied: “I don’t know. It depends on the situation.”

Helwani then suggested it was his last time in a boxing ring. However, Tyson once again hinted that he was keen to prove himself again, replying: “I don’t think so.”

As for Paul, he has his sights set on fighting former UFC star Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez: “He knows he wants a payday, so he knows where the money is,” Paul said after the fight.
