One of two teens charged in the 2023 murder of a Washington High School student is found guilty

SOUTH BEND, Ind. (WNDU) – One of two teens charged the fatal shooting of a 17-year-old Washington High School student Last year he was found guilty by a jury.

18-year-old Esequiel Trejo Jr. of South Bend was found guilty Friday of accessory to murder and conspiracy to commit murder in the July 10, 2023, death of Luis Hernandez-Acosta.

The police were called early that morning to a shooting in the 500 block of S. Carlisle Street. Hernandez-Acosta was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to court documents, video surveillance near the area showed two individuals running away and hiding in a backyard. Investigators identified them as Trejo and Edwin Torres-Becerril.

Torres-Becerril was charged last July with the murder of Hernandez-Acosta. His next hearing is scheduled for November 25.

Trejo Jr. will be sentenced on December 11.
