More than 800 homes in Utah were without power Wednesday after a bizarre and disturbing incident in Salt Lake City when a woman climbed into a high-voltage transformer. The dramatic scene, which unfolded near Gladiola Street and Decade Drive, caused significant disruptions in the area, according to local news channel ABC4.

Woman climbs onto transformer, police have difficulty intervening

The woman was seen standing on top of large industrial equipment. Video footage, now circulating widely on social media, shows her clinging to one of the tall cylindrical insulators and surrounded by high-voltage components. In an incredibly precarious position, the woman grabbed the structure with her legs and one arm, while her body dangled horizontally.

Two individuals – believed to be emergency responders or utility workers – were seen nearby in a utility truck, keeping a close eye on the woman as she appeared to be in danger. Police officers began surrounding her with aerial platforms, hoping to bring her down safely, but the situation quickly escalated when the woman began kicking the aerial platforms and climbing over a wire like a creeper.

Tensions rise when the police take action

As the situation intensified, a police officer warned the woman to get into the aerial platform, threatening to use force if she did not comply. The officer then shot the woman with a less-lethal weapon to subdue her. According to eyewitness Kent, the woman collapsed in pain, but was slowly lowered into the aerial platform. She was conscious, crying in pain, but still able to communicate.

An ambulance arrived at the scene and the woman was taken to hospital on a stretcher. Kent, who witnessed the incident, shared his concerns about the woman, saying he heard her scream that the world was no longer safe for her or future children. “We were a little worried about her,” he told ABC4, expressing relief when she was brought down safely.
