Emily Henderson shared her tips for Christmas decorating

Emily Henderson shared her tips for Christmas decorating

Decorating your holiday home may be the highlight of the season, but it creates the ideal putting together decor can be a challenge.

In preparation we contacted an interior designer and stylist Emily Henderson for her expert decorating tips and decor must-haves. Her advice? For an end result that looks “cohesive and less chaotic,” start with a “particular color palette.” Then set out “all the greenery,” including trees, wreaths, and garlands.

Complete the look with ‘the smaller details’ such as ribbons, figurines and candles. “I like a traditional holiday look, but I also like a fresh look. Combining old and new will always do that,” she adds.

Brightown Vintage LED Christmas Lights

“I like warm white lamps and not all lamps are the same. I really loved these ones I got last year,” Henderson shared of these vintage-inspired string lights from Amazon. Their unbreakable and waterproof design makes them suitable for outdoor use. The LED lights are also energy efficient and will last year after year.

They are available in multiple lengths, ranging from 25 to 60 meters, with the lamps evenly distributed over the string with a distance of 30 cm between them.

“I used to be a die-hard real tree person, but I’ve now really come around to an artificial tree,” explains Henderson. “I love the Woodland Fir Pre-Lit Tree from Terrain. It’s a bit Scandi, but not too sparse. When it comes to decorating our tree, I’m all about custom/special ornaments. I love both the tree skirts and the collars, so it’s completely up to your preference.”

The tree is pre-lit with warm LED lights, which provide a twinkling or steady image, and is secured with a metal stand.

Last Christmas, Henderson decorated her mantle with pieces of natural wood, including this nutcracker figurine and a garland of wooden beads. The drummer is made from unfinished pinewood and bamboo, stands 60cm high and can be stained or painted to match your color scheme.

Henderson noted that she loves hanging “wreaths in the windows,” adding that she is “part of Terrain’s faux greenery” roster. She recommends adding ribbon for a look that’s “completely magical.”

Shoppers shared that this option, which measures 18 inches in diameter, looks realistic and whimsical.
