Pedestrian died in an accident while crossing Melville Road on Friday evening

A man died Friday evening after he was struck by the driver of a car while crossing the road in Melville, Suffolk County police are saddened.

Around 8:30 p.m., a 2003 Toyota sedan was traveling northbound in the left lane on Broadhollow Road between Spagnoli and Ruland roads when the male driver struck an eastbound crosswalk.

The pedestrian, who has not been identified by police, was taken to Nassau University Medical Center in East Meadow, where he was pronounced dead, police said.

The driver of the Toyota was not injured and the vehicle was seized for a security check. Anyone with information about this crash is asked to call the Second Squad at 631-854-8252.
