The principal of Xavier High School was fired after a complaint received by the Diocese of Green Bay

APPLETON, Wis. (WBAY) – Xavier High School Principal Mike Mauthe has been fired from his position, according to a letter sent to Xavier families Thursday.

The letter states that the Diocese of Green Bay received a complaint against Mauthe, prompting them to open an investigation.

It goes on to say that because this complaint is about a personnel matter, “no other details can be provided.”

Action 2 News has reached out to the Diocese of Green Bay and the Appleton Police Department but has not heard back.

According to his biography on the Xavier Catholic Schools websiteMauthe grew up in Menasha and began his career at Xavier in 1996. He left his teaching job at Xavier in 2012 to become principal of Lourdes Academy Middle and High School in Oshkosh. In 2014 he returned to Xavier as director.

Dear Xavier family,

I regret to inform you that a complaint was received by the Green Bay Diocese Safe Environment Office, which subsequently opened an investigation. As a result, Mr. Mike Mauthe is no longer employed by St. Francis Xavier High School. As this is a personnel matter, no further details can be provided.

The safety of our children is our first priority. We understand that this news may be disturbing and we are doing everything we can to support you, along with our students and staff. Three mental health counselors from Catholic Charities will be at Xavier High School on Friday, November 15 and available to staff and students.
