SIU investigates officer-involved shooting on Place d’Orleans

Ontario’s Special Investigations Unit is investigating after an Ottawa Police Service officer shot and seriously injured a 33-year-old man who allegedly attacked people in Orleans late Friday.

The police watchdog said in a news release that preliminary information indicates the injured man attacked people and damaged vehicles in the area of ​​St. Joseph Boulevard and Place d’Orléans Drive.

Upon arrival, police confronted the man. An officer then shot the suspect several times.

Two conducted energy weapons were also deployed.

The man was arrested and taken to hospital, where he remains in critical stable condition.

Four civilians were injured and taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The SIU message did not specify which weapons may have been used by the suspect.

Five detectives and two forensic investigators have been assigned to the case.
