Sask. winter announces its arrival with freezing drizzle and snow

A low-pressure system moving into Saskatchewan from Montana will bring heavy snow to southeastern parts of the province today.

Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) issued a series of warnings on Saturday for snowfall of 10-15 cm until Sunday morning, and said slippery road conditions would also pose a hazard.

ECCC said rapidly accumulating snow could make travel difficult, and travelers should adjust their driving behavior to changing road conditions.

The ECCC also issued a number of freeze warnings on Saturday, which can leave untreated surfaces slippery with thin, hard-to-detect layers of ice.

In Saskatoon, police dealt with several collisions involving multiple vehicles on the Circle Drive North Bridge, Senator Sid Buckwold Bridge and several areas along Circle Drive.

Saskatoon police said in a news release that traffic restrictions and delays in these areas are ongoing.
