Ondo concludes 2024: “How PDP and APC bought votes for N3000, N10000”, report

The Center for Democracy and Development West Africa (CDD-West Africa) through its Election Analysis Center (CDD-EAC) has made its observation on the Ondo State Governorship Election held on Saturday, November 16, 2024.

CDD announced that the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) bought votes from the voters during the exercise for only N3,000 and N5,000 respectively.

Prof. Victor Adetula, leader of the CDD-EAC Observation Mission Ondo 2024, and Dr. Dauda Garuba, Director of CDD-West Africa, revealed this in CDD’s preliminary EAC statement, Daily Trust reported.

Mrs. Oluseyi Awojulugbe, member of the CDD-EAC, presented the statement on the conduct of the 2024 Ondo State governorship election.

The report also said that the elections recorded fewer cases of disinformation and information manipulation, also known as fake news, compared to the recently concluded September 21 off-cycle gubernatorial election. Edo state.

“CDD-EAC notes many cases of vote buying. In Okitipupa LGA, Ward 09, Unit 003 (Irowa, Ilutitun 3), voters were asked for their votes, with APC reportedly offering ₦10,000 per voter and PDP ₦3,000. Reports of vote buying were recorded in Odigbo LGA, Ward 01, Unit 001 (Oja Baale, Agbabu), with APC reportedly offering ₦10,000 and PDP ₦5,000 per voter.

“Our observers also noted that some party agents began transferring money to voters to avoid having to hold cash. In Ese-Odo, Ward 07, Unit 013 (Tari Ama Zion Ugo Community, Arogbo 2 Ward), vote buying was observed at this polling station, with PDP offering ₦3,000 and APC offering ₦5,000 to voters.

“In Ward 005, PU 001, St Barnabas Primary School, Ifon, CDD-EAC observers saw police officers arguing over money shared by a party loyalist. The police officers reportedly raised eyebrows when about ten of them were paid N100,000 while only one officer from another branch of the armed forces was said to have been paid N15,000,” the report said.

Buying votes: EFCC operatives storm polling stations in Ondo

In a similar development Legit.ng reported That EFCC Officials were spotted at some polling stations as vote buying reportedly resurfaced during the ongoing Ondo state gubernatorial election.

Anti-graft agency operatives landed in Akure, the Ondo State capital on Saturday, November 16.

This followed reports that several polling stations were reportedly involved in alleged voter inducements during the ongoing elections.
