Thief arrested after hiding merchandise in suitcase: Colma police

(KRON) – A Fremont resident was arrested for theft after police say he hid retail merchandise in a suitcase, according to Colma police.

The theft happened at a store in the Metro Mall Shopping Center on Wednesday around 9:01 p.m. Responding officers were told that a man was “hiding merchandise in a suitcase.” Officers were also told that the suspect, later identified as Fremont resident Roberto Cuencacisneros, was still walking around the store.

Cuencacisneros, 23, fled as soon as police found him. Colma police said Cuencacisneros was apprehended after a short chase.

According to Colma police, Cuencacisneros stole approximately $1,314.48 worth of merchandise from the store. It was also determined that Cuencacisneros had committed two other burglaries at the same shopping center within a month, adding $880 worth of goods he stole.

Cuencacisneros was arrested and booked into the San Mateo County Jail for grand larceny, resisting a police officer and possession of burglary tools.
