Man Inherits Grandma’s $5 Bill Is So Rare He Offered $400,000 For It

Man Inherits Grandma’s Bill Is So Rare He Offered 0,000 For It

A five-dollar bill inherited by a man from his grandmother has received viral attention online, with suggestions that the paper bill could be worth thousands of dollars.

Charlotte Carroll’s boyfriend Tommy was given his grandmother’s banknote collection after her death, and one item in particular has fascinated internet users.

In a video with more than 800,000 views, the caption read: “My friend (friend) inherited this $5 bill from his grandma. It has to be the craziest bill I’ve ever seen.”

The $5 bill contains a significant printing error, misaligned and parts of the print overlapping. In the lower right portion of the bill, where the large number “5” usually appears, it appears as if it has been printed twice and is no longer in line with the rest of the design. The misprint created a duplication or overlapping effect, where parts of the bill’s text and its numerical markings appear to be “stacked” or shifted.

Carroll said the bill came from Tommy’s grandmother, who had previously worked in the finance department of Universal Studios in California. “People have offered anywhere from $5 to $400,000 for it, whatever we refuse,” Carroll said. Newsweek.

‘I decided to share further TikTok because I have a lot of community in the fundraising world that I wanted to share with,” she said. “But I never thought the video would blow up like this.”

Printing errors like the one on the invoice are very uncommon, making this a potential collector’s item.

Wyatt McDonald is a paper money expert at Coinfully.com, an organization based in Charlotte, North Carolina, and he specializes in valuing and selling coins and paper money. “Misprints on modern paper money are very interesting, but they are much more common than you might think,” McDonald said Newsweek.

“These notes are produced in such large quantities that they generally do not command significant premiums on the collector’s market. Misprints on older currencies can be very valuable, and the color of the seal is usually the best indicator. Vintage notes have a red color., blue or gold seal on the front,” McDonald said.

“A misprint on a modern green stamp note generally only fetches a premium of a few dollars. That said, they make excellent conversation starters and meaningful sentimental items. If these modern misprints are in uncirculated condition, they can be two or are worth three times their face value.”

In the comments, people reacted to the very unusual $5. “That’s worth SOOO much!! My jaw dropped,” said KaylaKabob. Suggesting the value, viewer Neil said: “I’d estimate close to $4,000, assuming no fault occurred and condition unaffected.”

Despite all offers to buy the unusual, misprinted note, Carroll said she and Tommy would decline. She added: “It is our most favorite and priceless piece from our collection.”
