Prince Andrew is enlisting the help of his son-in-law to give Royal Lodge a makeover after winning his battle with King Charles to stay at the mansion, it was claimed last night.

Edo Mapelli Mozzi, an interior design expert married to Andrew’s daughter Princess Beatrice, is said to be advising the beleaguered Duke of York on modernizing the sprawling 30-room property, according to sources.

Mr Mapelli Mozzi, 40, has been seen regularly visiting Royal Lodge in recent weeks, while towards the end of the summer a container was spotted outside the front of the property.

It comes as the Mail on Sunday last week revealed how Andrew is facing calls to ‘come clean’ and reveal the secret funding sources funding his stay at Royal Lodge.

The king last month stopped paying his brother’s £3million-a-year security bill and urged him to move to more modest accommodations, as part of a row that became ‘the siege of the Royal Lodge’ named.

But Andrew can now stay at the house in Windsor Great Park after convincing Palace officials he has secured enough money to cover his living expenses.

Recent photos show some of Royal Lodge’s outbuildings in a state of disrepair, with large patches of paint peeling from the walls. The interior is said to be full of new teapots collected by Andrew’s wife Sarah Ferguson and gifts received by the Duke when he was a working royal.

A source said: ‘They are redecorating a place where they can sit and stay: the guesthouses.’

Edo — who has a daughter, Sienna, with Beatrice and an older son, Wolfie, from a previous relationship with famed architect Dara Huang — has a penchant for home design.

He founded Banda, an interior design company that helps ultra-wealthy business magnates and tech titans put down their homes. The company, which employs 65 people in London, has projects in New Delhi, Milan, the Alps, LA and the glitzy Hamptons near New York.

His company’s designs are a mix of modern and traditional, often combining marble with wood and contemporary lighting.

Edo and Beatrice, who are expecting their second child, recently refurbished their country home in Oxfordshire and installed large new entrance gates.

He has also helped his mother Nikki, who is married to sculptor David Williams-Ellis, redevelop her country house in Oxfordshire.

Meanwhile, mystery still surrounds the financial arrangement that allowed the Duke to remain at Royal Lodge.

A source told the MoS that speculation that Andrew’s boyfriend, billionaire sports mogul Johan Eliasch, may have provided financial support is wide off the mark.

Mr Eliash has not seen The Duke since they were dining together at Harry’s Bar in Mayfair, central London, in March.

It is believed he is keen to publicly distance himself from his old friend as he fears any negative publicity associated with Andrew could damage his bid to become president of the International Olympic Bid.

Mr Eliasch, president of the International Ski and Snowboard Federation, is one of seven candidates, including Lord Coe, for the prestigious Olympic role.

A source close to Mr Eliasch said: ‘I don’t think Johan would be stupid enough to be involved. It’s too precarious, too nightmarish, why would he want to do it? He wants different things in life.’
