California man killed, woman seriously injured in Phelps County crash Saturday morning

PHELPS COUNTY, Mo. (KMIZ)

A California man died in a crash in Phelps County on Saturday.

According to a crash report from the Missouri State Highway Patrol, a 37-year-old woman from Montebello, California was driving a 2019 Freightliner Cascadia on Interstate 44 Westbound at 2:03 a.m.

A 54-year-old man from Hacienda Heights, California was a passenger in the truck.

The accident occurred when the truck went off the right side of the road, hitting a guardrail and a concrete bridge before going airborne and hitting an embankment.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene.

The woman was transported by plane to University Hospital.

According to the accident report, the man was not wearing a seat belt during the crash. It is not known whether it was a woman.
