Mike Tyson in sad post-fight revelation as Jake Paul’s cops face backlash after ‘pathetic’ act

Mike Tyson in sad post-fight revelation as Jake Paul’s cops face backlash after ‘pathetic’ act

Mike Tyson has revealed that he almost died in June after falling ill, adding to the mystery of why he was allowed to fight Jake Paul in a controversial in-ring comeback. The world was fascinated then Tyson announced he would return to the ring at the age of 58 after signing up to fight YouTuber turned boxer, Paul.

The original fight, scheduled for June, was canceled due to Tyson falling ill and the fight went ahead this weekend, with Paul winning an ’embarrassing’ spectacle against a very slow and struggling Tyson. Although many thought Tyson would be too strong for Paul, the former heavyweight champion slowed down dramatically after the second round, throwing only a handful of punches to see the fight through.

Paul tried to show his respect for Tyson with just seconds left after landing his punches to avoid hurting the older opponent. Although the crowd was not happy with the event, boos rang through the arena.

Tyson cut a frazzled figure after the fight after admitting he didn’t get back in the ring to prove anything to anyone. Although he did take to social media after the fight and claim that he almost died in June after falling ill, which led to the first fight being canceled.

“This is one of those situations where you lost but still won,” he wrote on Platform .

“I almost died in June. I had eight blood transfusions. I lost half my blood and 25 pounds in the hospital and had to fight to get healthy to fight, so I won.”

“For my kids to see me stand toe-to-toe and finish eight rounds with a talented fighter half my age, in front of a packed Dallas Cowboy Stadium, is an experience no one has the right to ask for.”

Although Tyson was resilient in the ring against a 27-year-old fighter, his latest revelation begs the question of why the fight went ahead in the first place. Before the fight, promoters Eddie Heard and Frank Warren blasted the show and said Tyson should not fight.

And while Paul claimed he didn’t want to knock out Tyson, fans were left disappointed with the display and wondered how Tyson was allowed to take blows to the head at the age of 58. Terence Crawford, arguably the best pound-for-pound boxer in the world right now, was critical of the display and didn’t hold back.

Crawford claimed Tyson looked like ‘trash’ in the ring but was happy the former heavyweight champion was not injured by his opponent. Others agreed that the fight was a ‘sad’ match, with many wondering why Paul wanted to fight a much older man. The boos that rang through the arena said it all, with another bizarre boxing spectacle that only served to damage the sport’s reputation.

Before the fight even happened, there were questions about why it happened. British promoter Hearn was candid when asked about the fight, saying Tyson should not step into the ring at the age of 58.

“Twenty years ago, Mike Tyson quit boxing and got shot to pieces, right? I mean, completely shot,” Hearn said ahead of the fight this week. “If anyone thinks Mike Tyson should be in the ring at this age, you either have absolutely no emotional feelings towards the man or you’re an idiot. It shouldn’t happen.”

And he wasn’t the only critic of the fight. Rival promoter Warren agreed with Hearn. “Mike Tyson is 58 years old and he shouldn’t be fighting,” Warren said months ago after the fight was officially announced. “It’s that simple.

“Anyone with an ounce of brain knows it’s ridiculous. You can be in a traffic jam on a highway and get to the end, and only people have stopped to watch an accident – and that’s what this is.”
