The Mumbai Crime Branch on Sunday arrested a Gujarat resident from Akola in Maharashtra in the Baba Siddique murder case, taking the number of people detained in the sensational incident to 25, an official said.

Salmanbhai Iqbalbhai Vohra, a resident of Petlad in Anand district of Gujarat, was arrested from Balapur in Akola, around 565 km from the metropolis, with the help of police there, the Crime Branch official said.

The 66-year-old NCP leader was shot near his MLA son Zeeshan Siddique’s office in Nirmal Nagar area of ​​Bandra East on October 12.

“Vohra had opened a bank account in May this year and provided financial assistance to Nareshkumar Singh, brother of arrested accused Gurmail Singh, Rupesh Mohol and Harishkumar. He also helped others involved in the crime,” the official said.

Gurmail Singh of Haryana and Dharmaraj Kashyap, resident of Uttar Pradesh, were detained from the spot immediately after the murder.

Police recently got a major breakthrough in the case when they arrested alleged main gunman Shivkumar Gautam from Bahraich in Uttar Pradesh. Gautam, who had been on the run since October 12, was detained while trying to flee to Nepal, according to police.
