‘Unique’ ez-link card for €9 that allows you to travel for free on public transport for a whole year? It’s a scam

A Facebook ad, purportedly from “EZ-link Singapore”, offered a unique $9 card that allows you to enjoy free public transport in Singapore for an entire year.

It’s a scam.

“We are aware of recent online phishing scams involving the sale of EZ-Link cards through social media advertisements,” the Land Transport Authority (LTA) said on social media on November 15.

“These scams involve the sale of ez-Link cards with attractive offers, such as unlimited public transport for a small fee. When users click on the advertising links, they are redirected to phishing websites that ask for banking details and OTPs (one-time passwords). ).

“All promotions for EZ-Link cards will only be run on the SimplyGo website and SimplyGo and EZ-Link social media pages.

“SimplyGo has not offered any promotions for the sale of EZ-Link cards with free rides.”

Both SimplyGo and EZ-Link had previously warned about false advertisements on social media promoting the sale of EZ-Link tickets on October 8.
