53-year-old man sentenced to 20 years for raping 9-year-old girl |

Kendrapada: An Additional District and Special Judge (Pocso), Kendrapada, on Saturday sentenced a 53-year-old man to 20 years in prison for raping a nine-year-old girl two years ago.
The court also imposed a fine of 50,000 euros on the convicted person. Kapilendra Mallick. If he does not pay the fine, his sentence will be increased by six months.
The court also directed the Odisha State Legal Services Authority (OSLSA) to pay compensation of Rs 4 lakh to the girl under the government’s victim compensation scheme.
The girl was raped by Kapilendra, a neighbor, at his house on June 6, 2022, when she went to meet her boyfriend there. The suspect threatened the girl with serious consequences if she told anyone about the incident.
However, she informed her parents about her ordeal, and the girl’s mother filed an FIR at the police station against Kapilendra, alleging that her daughter was raped by him.
Based on the FIR, the police initiated investigation and arrested the accused under Section 376 AB (rape) of the IPC and Section 6 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses (Pocso) Act, 2012.
“Judge Pragyan Paramita Roul convicted the accused after hearing the statements of 19 witnesses, including the girl, and the medical report,” said Manoj Kumar Sahu, special prosecutor.
