A 17-year-old, identified as a University of Iowa student, is killed in a car crash

A 17-year-old Swisher teen was killed early Saturday morning in a single-car crash when his car turned off southbound Interstate 380 in Johnson County and struck a concrete barrier.

The Iowa State Patrol identified the victim as Kaden Blair. A GoFundMe fundraiser said Blair graduated from Cedar Rapids Prairie High School and was enrolled in pre-medical studies at the University of Iowa. Donations will be used to pay for funeral services, and any additional money will be used to sponsor a student in the pre-med program in Blair’s honor, the GoFundMe article said.

A post on the Prairie Hawks wrestling Facebook page noted that Blair was a former Prairie Hawks wrestler and encouraged donations. “What a tragedy,” the message reads.

The Iowa State Patrol crash report says that after Blair’s 2013 Hundai Azera hit the barrier, Blair was ejected and the vehicle caught fire. State Police are continuing their investigation.
