What happened in the premiere of Yellowstone Season 5 Part 2? Watch it before episode 10

With two years of anticipation under our belts, we finally saw the return of the Dutton family in a new episode of “Yellowstone.” Season 5 part 2 premiered Sunday, November 10 answers some of our biggest questions.

Perhaps the biggest question is how John Dutton would be written off the show after Kevin Costner announced he would not appear in Season 5 Part 2 of “Yellowstone.” That storyline, and everything that followed, is recapped below to catch you up before a new episode begins Sunday, November 17 at 8:00 PM ET Paramount Network.

Summary of Yellowstone Season 5 Part 2 Premiere:

The series returned when Beth and Kayce Dutton stopped at their father’s governor’s mansion, which was surrounded by emergency services and caution tape. Once inside, the siblings found John Dutton lying on the bathroom floor, next to his blood and a handgun. Although distraught, Beth was immediately convinced that John had not committed suicide, as it seemed. She thought her brother Jamie was to blame. Beth then called her husband Rip Wheeler to come home while he moved Dutton cattle to Texas to save them from a spreading disease.

While Kayce investigated and spoke with police, they told him they had no security footage due to a power outage in the area the night before. However, they believed that John’s death was a suicide and that there was no foul play.

Later in the episode we found Jamie Dutton distraught. Through flashbacks, we learned that it wasn’t him who pulled the trigger, but someone his lover, Atwood, hired.

One of these flashbacks showed Atwood planning the execution with a man who described the staged suicide as the “highest reward with the lowest risk.” Before leaving, Atwood told the man to do it. When Jamie found out what happened, he went to Atwood crying and told her that he only mentioned the possibility of hiring killers – he didn’t say he had to.

Atwood tried to reassure him by telling him, “Lions die in the jaws of younger lions, and you are the younger lion.” This is your kingdom now.”

The episode ended with Beth and Kayce plotting revenge on their brother Jamie and Atwood. Rip arrived after his long drive from Texas and hugged Beth.

In episode 10, “The Apocalypse of Change,” Beth comes to a chilling realization. Kayce contacts an old friend looking for information, and Jamie meets with Market Equities.
