Gang that supplied banned medicines arrested

New Delhi: Delhi PoliceThe Crime Branch of Police has uncovered a Delhi-based human trafficking module allegedly involved in the supply prohibited drugs and cough syrup to youth in Delhi and Jammu and Kashmir.
Police arrested four members of the module, which was engaged in distributing bans narcoticsincluded tramadol tablets and pentazocine injections. The operation, based on a tip-off and technical surveillance, led to the seizure of high-value narcotics worth several crores.
The recovered drugs and injections were traced to suppliers in Uttar Pradesh, with distribution channels extending into J&K, and certain injections were traced to Haryana. The suspects were identified as Chandan Kumar Rout, Arvind Singh, Parshuram and Sushant Garg.
Sushant Garg, owner of Healthy Life Pharmacy in Lajpat Nagar, was identified as a distributor supplying banned codeine syrup to consumers from Afghanistan and J&K. “He admitted that he had repackaged the syrup and delivered it in bulk through a delivery service,” said DCP (crime) Bhisham Singh.
The investigation by a team comprising ACP Anil Sharma and Inspector Pankaj unearthed a complex inter-state operation, with connections to recipients and suppliers in J&K. Four properties, worth around Rs 4 crore, linked to the suspects are now under financial investigation.
Chandan Kumar Rout, a human trafficker based in Faridabad, was arrested with 6.8 kg of tramadol tablets. Arvind Singh, owner of Shiva Pharma in Okhla, was identified as Rout’s supplier. Parshuram, associated with Ekta Vihar in Delhi, was found to be a buyer of Arvind Singh as well as a supplier to end users.
“The recovered jabs were from Haryana, indicating a multi-state supply chain. The suspects were found to be involved in illegal sale of banned narcotics, procuring contraband from multiple suppliers and selling it in black market,” DCP Singh added. . The police are mainly investigating the link and scope of the gang in the black market of J&K.
In August this year, the Union Home Ministry told Rajya Sabha that 66,595 kg of drugs had been seized in J&K under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act in the last three years. A significant portion of this cargo – 61,396 kg – consisted of opium-based drugs, including heroin, morphine and codeine.
Tramadol is often abused alongside other intoxicants such as alcohol, a combination known as polydrug abuse. Users typically combine tramadol with other substances to increase their high or self-medicate. Common street names for tramadol include trammies, chill pills, and echoes. Like tramadol, pentazocine injections are used to relieve moderate to severe pain and can also be used before surgery or with a general anesthetic.
