Woman, 48, dead after being found injured in Oshawa home

Homicide detectives are investigating the death of a 48-year-old woman who was found injured in an Oshawa home Sunday morning, Durham Regional Police say.

At approximately 12:30 p.m., officers received a 911 call to a home on Eulalie Avenue, Sgt. Joanne Bortoluss told reporters at the scene just after 11 a.m

She said officers arrived and found a woman suffering from obvious signs of trauma.

Both officers and paramedics treated her at the scene before transporting her to a Toronto-area trauma center, but she was later pronounced dead at hospital, Bortoluss said.

Police say the woman’s husband, who is 41 years old, is in police custody and charged with first-degree murder.

The couple’s two 5-year-old children and an older woman were in the home at the time of the killing but were unharmed, police said.

Case of intimate partner violence: police

Police say the incident is being investigated as a case of intimate partner violence.

“Any time an incident like this happens, I think it has a major impact on the community,” Bortoluss said.

She said there are community resources available for those affected by intimate partner violence, adding that accessing victim services in Durham Region does not require police intervention.

“When it comes to intimate partner violence, there is no geographic location; it really affects everywhere and at all times,” she said. “If you need us, if you need victim assistance, we are all here to provide assistance.”

Detectives are calling on anyone who lives in the area or people who may have information about this incident to report to the police.
