Wagener Fire Chief Announces Resignation

WAGENER, S.C. (WRDW/WAGT) – The fire chief of the Wagoner Fire Department has stepped down from his position.

Tillman Rushton announced his resignation in a letter on Saturday.

In his letter, Rushton cites three main reasons for his resignation, including finances, oversight of training and proper equipment, and leadership from Mayor Mike Miller.

Lineman killed on the job in Griffin, remembered as a hero

Rushton states that 19 of the 25 firefighters resigned Saturday because of Mayor Miller’s leadership.

Rushton encouraged the Aiken City Council to bring a qualified, impartial third party into the Wagener Fire Department or disperse its firefighters and equipment to other departments with better standards and greater oversight.
