12-year-old charged with attempted murder after teen injured in shooting

COLUMBIA, SC (WIS) – Richland County Sheriff Leon Lott has announced the arrest of a 12-year-old in connection with a November 11 shooting and an armed robbery from March.

Investigators say this arrest comes after responding to a shooting on Ranch Road around 7 p.m. on November 11.

When authorities arrived, they found a 14-year-old boy with multiple gunshot wounds. The 14-year-old was taken to hospital and is in stable condition.

Investigators determined this started with an argument that allegedly led to the 12-year-old pulling a gun and shooting, ultimately hitting the victim. The suspect fled the scene before police arrived, officers said.

On November 15, the 12-year-old turned himself in at Richland County Sheriff’s Department headquarters.

The minor is facing multiple charges, including attempted murder, possession of a weapon under the age of 18 and possession of a weapon during a violent crime.

During the investigation, officials also determined that the suspect was involved in an armed robbery near East Boundary Road in March and he is also charged with armed robbery in connection with that incident.

He has now been booked into the Department of Juvenile Justice.
