Owners of Cineworld are considering an American listing for cinema chain, says Sky – BNN Bloomberg

(Bloomberg) — The owners of Cineworld are considering listing the cinema chain – which left the London Stock Exchange in 2023 – in New York in 2026, Sky News reported on Sunday.

The deal would likely involve operations outside the UK, with the group expected to look at a sale of its UK operations later, although no decisions have been made yet, according to the report.

Cineworld filed for bankruptcy in the US in 2022 after Covid-19 lockdowns forced the closure of many of its outlets. In August last year the company was delisted from the LSE and effectively taken over by its lenders.

Most recently, it was hit by a reduction in new releases due to screenwriters and actors’ strikes in 2023, forcing it to reduce the burden of its UK arm’s rental costs through a UK restructuring plan.
